“I felt jealous looking through this....” – Barbara Glauber

Summer 2009 Blown Away included in I.D. magazine’s Annual Design Review. Juror Barbara Glauber comments, “I felt jealous looking through this.... There are real moments of genius here.”
My oldest son began kindergarten this year. He's learning how to read and how to construct written words and sentences. And he's bringing home drawings. But it isn't all just drawing for the sake of mark-making, or writing just to memorize the shape of letters. Like the other kids in his class, he's learning how to tell stories. The simple and obvious truth, which has a slow way of revealing itself, is that my path to design began with this same innate love of visual expression and a fascination with the written word. I love to tell stories.
Before joining VSA Partners in the spring of 2010, I spent nine years as a designer and associate at Studio Blue in Chicago. There I developed projects for leading cultural and educational institutions, helping them tell their stories authentically and powerfully – institutions like the Art Institute of Chicago, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Krannert Art Museum at Illinois University, Harris Theater in Millennium Park, the Museum of Science and Industry, Metropolis magazine, the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, and the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.
My work has been recognized by the AIGA, Type Director’s Club, Society of Publication Designers, American Association of Museums, the Vienna Art Book Award, Print, STEP, and I.D. magazines, and is part of the permanent collection at the Art Institute of Chicago. I am a Northwest Indiana native and resident. In addition to my professional activities, I develop self-initiated projects that celebrate graphic design as a unique visual/verbal art form.
And I help my son practice his letters.
Design that solves and celebrates.
